As a respite from my regular office duties, I explored the northern part of India, focusing specifically on Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun. Although the drop in temperature was expected, it was strongly felt just outside the airport while we waited for the cab. While travelling from the airport to the hotel, we passed a lovely stretch of forest area, where sunlight barely penetrated, with a troops of monkeys on both sides of the road. The roadside campfires, surrounded by groups of people bundled in winter clothes even during the daytime, spoke for themselves. The genuine simplicity of the Rishikesh’s people was clearly reflected in the cab driver and the hotel staff. While walking towards the Triveni Ghat for the Ganga Aarti, we passed by the River Ganga, an exquisite beauty of nature. The light-greenish water of the River Ganga, flowing past lush green mountains engulfed in fog and mist, was an ultimate treat to watch. As the Aarti preparations were gaining momentum, the excitement among the visitors and devotees was at its peak, with a few of them performing the puja rituals. The Aarti performed by the priests on the shores of River Ganga was a visual delight for the tourists. The chanting of ‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’ made the atmosphere simply boisterous, and I couldn’t stop myself from joining the bandwagon. Touching the holy waters of the River Ganga and seeking its blessings gave us a unique feeling of purity and sacredness. Early the next morning, I was able to fulfil my long-held desire to talk to the River Ganga. I sat on the larger rocks on the river shore and observed her more closely and deeply. The changing patterns of the water and the ripples it creates form an enchanting enigma. Honestly speaking, the experience may not seem real to many but certainly can’t be described in words. For me, it was a true “Yeh Dil Maange More” moment. The River Ganga’s multiple channels flowed seamlessly ahead, overcoming all obstacles, and beautifully carried one another along, reflecting love, warmth, and a deep sense of bonding – Isn’t it the miracle of Mother Nature? When the sun’s ray get directly into the river surface, the radiance, purity and the sanctity of River Ganga becomes strikingly evident to each one. It radiates its energy, transforming the surroundings into a place of remarkable tranquillity. The Ganga Aarti darshan at Parmarth Niketan was a mesmerizing spectacle, marked by a unique blend of spirituality and lively commotion.
Watching the River Ganga flow seamlessly through the ghats of Haridwar was nothing short of a heavenly experience. Carrying the deity’s palanquin for the Aarti puja came unexpectedly, and the moment felt surreal. It felt as if coming to this place was one of the best decisions I’ve made and the most memorable moment of the year.
Last but not least, visiting the Mindrolling Monastery in Dehradun felt like a personal renaissance, a rebirth of my inner self. The Buddhist teachings displayed on the billboards resonated deeply with me. The monks and disciples were engaged in their learning sessions, creating a truly divine atmosphere. The profound silence of that place was its unique charm, making my visit truly memorable.
The aura of the River Ganga, or Gange Maata, is unparalleled, as it lies at the heart of India and its people. It draws countless gurus, devotees, and disciples from around the world to its shores for meditation, yoga, and worship. Let the River Ganga continue to spread its extraordinary power for the betterment of humankind!!
